Fatigue is one of the common complaints of mothers immediately after birth. The birth process - especially the vaginal one - is exhausting for mothers.

The body undergoes immense stress during labor and expulsion of the fetus and needs some time for recovery. But you do not have time for this because the baby needs your attention. How do you deal with fatigue?

How long does the fatigue last after birth?

Unfortunately, this can take months. It all depends on the strength and powers you are endowed with in nature, the way you feed, hydrate and manage to rest when you have a newborn baby in care.

The way you rest after birth also depends on your sleep schedule, meal times and the help you have at home from your dad or other family members.

What other causes can fatigue after birth?

Although natural to a point, fatigue can still have other causes, some of which are still unknown.

Some specialists have associated fatigue with postpartum depression. Lack of sleep and the birth itself can contribute to a deep sadness, lethargy and apathy. It is important to self-analyze. And if you notice that you suffer from insomnia, you lose interest in doing the things you liked before and you feel sad all the time, go to the doctor.

Anemia can cause fatigue after birth. If you have already suffered from anemia during pregnancy and have lost significant blood at birth, it may have increased. Ask your doctor to prescribe iron supplements and other prenatal vitamins.

In other cases fatigue can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. Most cases occur 4 or 8 months after birth.

How can you overcome fatigue?

Even though it seems almost impossible, you have to take care to take enough time to recharge your batteries and to relax from time to time. Here are some tricks that can help you do this:

  • asks for the help of friends, relatives, grandparents in the care of the newborn;
  • rest as much as you can - sleep with the baby, allow the father to take care of him for an hour or 2 to rest, etc .;
  • drink a lot of water; dehydration enhances fatigue, so it is important to make sure you drink enough fluids daily;
  • consume foods that provide you with energy and combat postnatal depression (protein, foods with Omega3, chocolate, etc.);
  • ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin supplements, even if you are breastfeeding; it is possible to recommend even the prenatal ones;
  • go out into town, visit friends and make sure you have an active social life;
  • go to spa or relaxation salons to massage or other therapies to help you recharge your batteries;
  • postpone visits from friends in the first weeks after birth; you need a period of recovery, but also adaptation to the new status of mother and what it implies and you do not need visits and agitation through the house.
