Cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome

Adults who have suffered from metabolic syndrome in childhood are exposed 25 years after the onset of the syndrome to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, reports Reuters Health.
Individual components of this syndrome continue to exist until maturity, but it has not been clearly established what is the link between cardiovascular disease and the syndrome.
The study included children aged 5 to 19 years. The specialists concluded that 31 of the participants had at least 3 abnormal metabolic factors and were diagnosed with the metabolic syndrome.
Also, it was observed that 68% of the participants affected by the metabolic syndrome in childhood had this condition at maturity. Researchers believe that cardiovascular disease can be prevented if patients are diagnosed with metabolic syndrome on time.
