Delayed speech

Usually, in children's albums, next to places for pictures, for hair suites, there are places where the first word is written, the first sentence our child speaks. But sometimes, these additions are delayed because children do not talk when they should, worrying about their parents.
Delayed speech or flu-related problems have many different causes, so it is important for parents to look for the most appropriate way of diagnosis and treatment.
Early intervention is of great use, as an undiagnosed speech defect in time will make it difficult to resolve later.
If parents worry about the evolution and development of speech, the first step they should take is consulting a pediatrician. The pediatrician is a good starting point, because it guides parents to the most appropriate treatment.
They argue that generally at the age of two, the child should be able to read a few words. At the age of three years it should communicate independently.
This means that they should be able to make themselves understood, without a parent repeating or interpreting what the child is saying to those present. If your child is not able to communicate until the age of three, it is advisable to seek specialized assistance.
Specialists in this type of problem can determine whether speech defects are caused by hearing loss, brain involution, or other causes such as autism. if the child can be understood by the family, but not by someone else. It is good for parents to consider evaluating the child at an early age.
Children with speech problems, who remain undiagnosed, may have major problems later, as an example being the weight with which they will learn. Then this problem will be impossible to remedy. Reading, writing or math are other forms of language and therefore children need a language base. Otherwise, no matter how much support you provide to the child later, it will no longer be able to reach its potential. It's like when you build a house and you don't have the skeleton to support it.
Experts say that it is important to differentiate the difficulty of expression from the difficulty of speaking, because there are two different notions. Difficulty of expression is related to how the child responds and reacts to the environment, while the difficulty of speaking has more to do with the formation of sounds and their order, in the formation of words.
Certain sounds like r, l and l can be difficult to pronounce, even by children up to seven years old. Most of the time it just takes time for a child to learn to pronounce certain sounds or words correctly. However, there are cases where it is preferable to intervene:

  • If the child's name starts with R or S, and he cannot even say his own name and closes himself, it is important to turn to specialized services, because the problem that seems quite normal for a child of this age, it can affect him emotionally.
  • For children and adults who cannot talk about motor causes, such as multiple sclerosis, head trauma or strokes, some electronic devices can help these patients communicate at home, at work, or at school.
